HAPPY BIRTHDAY GGCC……10 years old and what a 10 years!

Club ride details for Sunday 8th August

The traditional 10th anniversary gift is tin, while the modern gift for a 10th anniversary is diamonds – so……club fees are now paid in diamonds please! 😊

It’s time to mark this momentous date and celebrate and get together for a nice social ride and enjoy what we do……. riding bikes and having great banter.

GGCC have come a very long way since August of 2011, and we have developed into something to be proud of and we are the envy of many clubs……we do what we do, and it works…. extremely well!

You should all be immensely proud of the club you have created and what you are part of….each and every rider continues to support GGCC and gets involved at every opportunity and seeing everyone in the club kit is something to behold!............whether its black and white……or white and black……or all black……. or white……or sometimes yellow………kit!! 😉

This year we are heading ‘into the wild west’…….to enjoy the rolling roads and smoother tarmac!

It would be great if you could join us to celebrate our success and come along and ride with your mates.

For Sundays ride we are planning a social ride where all the groups will be mixed to give everyone a chance to ride with someone you may not get the chance to normally ride with and catch up with your fellow members and friends on the day.

The plan is to meet at 8.15am sharp so we can get a group photograph which has become customary on each anniversary ride and then set off at 8.30am sharp.

There were quite a few suggestions for routes for Sunday so the format is a social ride with a café stop and we will celebrate the year in style with our annual awards and maybe even something a little but special at our xmas awards do in November / December!....watch this space!!

The route for Sunday is below and it’s a 55-mile route with an option after the coffee stop to extend it to a 70 miler so hopefully caters for all. (**we may split into paced groups after the coffee stop but not before)

Garmin Connect

Hopefully the route has something for everyone, and the plan would be to ride together in mixed groups for the day. We would appreciate if you all make sure you understand the route in full before Sunday. There ‘may’ be options for a shorter return if required depending on weather, time, desire, for those that want it.

The route heads out from The Green towards the old India Platform in Newton Mearns, will then pick up the Stewarton Road and head towards and through Stewarton and on towards Auchentiber. From there we head north to Lugton and then Howwood before our café stop ion Bridge of Weir. From here there are options to either head back into town via the Georgetown Cup route or add on a 15-mile loop out around Kilmacolm.

We plan to stop in Bridge of Wert at Bernie’s Café so please bring enough money to get yourself fed and watered.

Sundays Sportive ride is a social ride so there will be NO PACED GROUPS, this day is about riding at a nice pace and having the time to mix the groups and enjoy the days riding, it’s not a training ride. It’s a chance to ride with folk you may not normally ride with.

Could the road captains and ride leaders please all chip in and help where they can and make sure the run goes as smoothly as possible throughout the day. We will make each group around 10 - 12 riders but have stops along the way to enable further mixing of groups and we can discuss the finer detail on Sunday and welcome your ideas too as it’s your day!

We will go through some basic safety, group riding etiquette and group riding technique, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.

For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)

Met Office currently states that there is a 40% chance of rain….so overcast but with a small chance of rain, Winds at 13mph from the SW gusting to 15mph and 17 degrees.

REMEMBER - NOBODY gets dropped on Sunday as it’s a social, so we ask that everyone really works together on Sundays Sportive, thanks

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

We look forward to seeing you and we hope that you all have a great day!

See you all Sunday and Happy Birthday GGCC
