11 Dec 2021

GGCC Club Run, Sunday 12th December - South & 48 Miles
Back tomorrow with another GGCC classic 'South And O'er The Moor'
Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for 8:30am sharp start.
Firstly, apologies for the lateness of the ride post this week, as you are probably all aware we had the Primo social event of the decade to get through first!!
So this week we plan to squeeze in one last visit to the windfarm before it shuts for it's winter hiatus. We will ride out of the Green in unpaced groups, steady format until the split point at the Malletsheugh. We then head (in our chosen pace groups) up the stewarton road and drop down into Stewarton. From there, Race pace and cheeky will carry on down to kilmaurs and loop back to Fenwick. Challenge and steady will take the slightly shorter (but hillier) road over to Fenwick. From there it is a blast right up the A77 and onto Eaglesham road where we will stop for coffee break at Whitelees wind farm cafe. Afterwards we head back through Eaglesham, EK, Rutherglen etc.
We will go through some basic safety, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.
The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.
For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)
RIDE ETIQUETTE– Each group MUST stay together and work as a group. When we divide into paced groups we ride at the advertised speeds of each paced group. If there is any split in the group (on Climbs etc) it is the responsibility of EVERYONE, not just the group leader, to get things back together at the top.
Ride Captains and Group leaders will decide on pace of group and arrange ride format.
The Cheeky Challenge and Race Pace Group will head straight through Stewarton and onto take a left at Kilmaurs with the Challenge and Steady groups turning left at the traffic lights at Stewarton.
**Each group can decide amongst themselves what route they take.
All groups can stop at Whitelees Windfarm for a coffee stop. Café is now open will indoor seating available, please make sure you bring a face covering with you.
Each group will set off together and travel over the Eaglesham Moor using the B764 back towards East Kilbride.
Each group will make their own way back to Glasgow Green
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.
Steady and Challenge Route http://connect.garmin.com/course/7790176
Forecast is to be dry and overcast, with 10% chance of rain, temperatures around 8 degrees, and a SSW wind of 6mph gusting to 17mph.
All groups stay together and work together!!......this is a training ride not a race!!
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace is very often 20+ mph
**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo
**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**
COVID AWARE
Can we stress again the below –
If you don’t feel safe, don’t attend. Don’t put yourself in a situation you are not comfortable with. I understand that some may be more cautious than others
1. Participants are required to carry a face covering at all times.
2. If you are in any way ill or have any symptoms at all….DO NOT attend a club ride
3. If you have been in a public situation that you feel there was or may have been a risk with regards to Covid-19, please do not attend and wait until the next club ride
4. Be respectful (as you always are), be thoughtful and mindful of your actions during your time with your fellow members.
