GGCC Club Run, Sunday 8th May 2022 - South over the Brae - 51 miles

06 May 2022

GGCC Club Run Sunday 8th May 2022 - NEW (OLD) ROUTE! South 51 miles
Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for 8:30am sharp start.
We have used this route before way back in 2018, so this will be a new route for some, so please everyone make sure you take a look at the link to give yourself an idea of the direction and terrain.
We will head out through Shawlands, Darnley, Barrhead, at which point we turn right towards Paisley, over the back road, then turn right up through foxbar and up over Glennifer brae. (re-group at the car park area at the top). Then Lugton, stewarton, over the cutstraw / clunch and onto the A77 followed by moor road up to the windfarm.
Following the coffee stop, each group will set off together and travel over the Eaglesham Moor using the B764 back towards East Kilbride.
Each group will make their own way back to Glasgow Green
WE WILL STOP AT WHITELEES WINDFARM FOR OUR COFFEE BREAK. PLEASE REMEMBER CASH/CARDS AND A FACE COVERING IF YOU WISH TO.
We will go through some basic safety, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.
The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.
For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)
RIDE ETIQUETTE– We will ride out of town in groups as normal and split into paced groups at the War Monument in Darnley. From there, each group MUST stay together and work as a group. We will start and ride at the advertised speeds of each paced group. If there is any split in the group (on Climbs etc) it is the responsibility of EVERYONE, not just the group leader, to get things back together at the top.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.
Forecast is to be dry and warm, with less than 5% chance of rain, with temperatures up around 11-15 degrees, and a wind of 11 mph from South gusting to 22 mph.
Groups should contain between 10 - 12 riders.
All groups stay together and work together!!......this is a training ride not a race!!
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
If there is interest, there may be a race pace group. This will be 20mph+ for sustained periods.
**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo
**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**
COVID AWARE
Can we stress again the below –
If you don’t feel safe, don’t attend. Don’t put yourself in a situation you are not comfortable with. I understand that some may be more cautious than others
1. If you are in any way ill or have any symptoms at all….DO NOT attend a club ride
2. If you have been in a public situation that you feel there was or may have been a risk with regards to Covid-19, please do not attend and wait until the next club ride
3. Be respectful (as you always are), be thoughtful and mindful of your actions during your time with your fellow members.
