The Lee CC - Junior Cricket 2022

04 Apr 2022

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are safe and well.

This message is to update on details for Junior Cricket at The Lee CC in 2022.

We have been running winter nets for our U10’s to U15’s that have been well attended and fun sessions which come to an end as the schools break up for Easter.

Preparations are also in place for matches and we are entered into League and Cup competitions from U9’s through to U15’s. They’ll no doubt be other friendlies and we’ll hopefully take part in the local festivals that are great fun for the younger age groups.

So, that brings us to the summer with the start of Friday Night Kwik Cricket and Saturday Morning Colts as follows:

  • Friday Night Kwik Cricket – First session - Friday 6th May
  • Saturday Morning Colts – First session - Saturday 7th May

Friday Night Kwik Cricket (Year 1/U6 to Year 6/U11)

Starting at 18.00, we run Kwik Cricket, which is a fun version of the game using soft balls and plastic bats. It is designed to encourage children to enjoy the game and develop the basic skills of the sport.

We will have groups for each school year from Year 1&2 (U6/U7) all the way through to Year 6 (U11). The session will last for about 60mins for our youngest age group extending to 90mins for the older age groups.

We are always looking out for and need more volunteers to help with coaching, especially on Friday nights. So, if you are interested, please let me know.

Please ensure players turn up on time, ready to take part in appropriate sports kit/footwear and with a water bottle.

Saturday Morning Colts (Year 5/U10 to Year 10/U15)

We are pleased to be running 6 age groups for our Saturday Morning Colts this season. This is hardball training on Saturday mornings from 10.00 -11:30(ish!). (Children in years 5 and 6 can attend both Friday nights and Saturday mornings)

With 6 age groups to accommodate this season and the ball being hit harder and further, we will split the groups between The Lee CC and Little Missenden Misfits CC (Highmoor Field, Penfold Lane, Little Missenden, HP7 0QU) and then alternate each week.

The groups will be split U10 to U12 and U13 to U15. Both grounds will have two nets and plenty of space for training.

The minimum equipment players will need for a hardball session is a protective box (there is an abdominal guard for girls if they would like to wear one), their own bat and junior-sized hardball. If players decide to attend regularly, whilst the club does have some kit, they may wish to buy their own helmet, gloves and pads.

The Chiltern Cluster

Continuing from the success of last season, the Chiltern Cluster will be running again as a joint effort between four local clubs to provide all girl cricket for those who might enjoy it.

It is as-well-as, not instead of, practicing and playing mixed cricket with their home club and the idea is that the girls can do as much or as little of each as they want.

There will be practice every Friday from late April to end July and there also three 3 league teams entered including soft and hard ball teams. For further details please contact Patrick Walsh (patrick_a_walsh@hotmail.co.uk) or Neil Hollister (nhollister@btinternet.com).

Kit Swap / Kit

During the first couple weeks of the season there is a plan to run a kit shop / swap where players can pick up some outgrown kit from the older age groups. The intention is for a couple of our U14 Leaders in Cricket to run this. If you have any kit that could be donated, please reach out to Phil Tillyer (philtillyer@btinternet.com).

For those playing in matches we would request that cricket whites are worn.

For club kit we use Chiltern Sports https://www.chilternsports.co.uk/ (The Bucks Goat Centre, Old Risborough Road, Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury, HP22 5XJ – Tel 01296 613399) where shirts, hoodies, training tops etc can be ordered. They are very knowledgeable, have a good selection of equipment to work with your budget and offer advice on the fit of bats etc. Don’t forget to mention you are from The Lee CC if you do visit them!

Friday Night Bar and BBQ

We will be running our Bar and BBQ on Friday evening alongside Friday Night Kwik cricket - a great way to start the weekend!

We’ll be running the usual rota, the expectation being that everyone along on a Friday evening takes their turn either on the Bar, BBQ or collecting glasses.

We need a couple of volunteers to help manage the rota and be on hand to make sure the Bar / BBQ is set up ready to go each week. Please reach out to Rachel Harris (rachelharris4@icloud.com) if you can help with this.
