Match Report - 18 Jan 2020, Dunfermline City Hockey Club Dunfermline City First Team beat Falkirk 4
City got back to winning ways today V Falkirk 4's.
We headed to Falkirk with a squad of 15 today - however did have 16 available - but a Coles decided to opt out to help reduce our numbers to a more managable level.
City started on the upper foot and pretty much stayed there for the whole game. We welcomed Karl Maxl back to the squad today after not playing at all in the first period of the season - and it was Karl who scored the first goal. As an overlapping surging Right Back - Karl was in is element as he rushed into the opposition D and first time a reverse stick slap into the goal - a great finish from an unusual position.
City were asking questions of an experienced Falkirk Team. But their last line of defence made some excellent blocks. Cromb who was dominating the midfield took a sore one of a lifted ball around the knee - and the wimp had to go off for a wee breather - but his replacement Pat Forrester almost set up number two. He drove forward and released Miller on the left of the D - but Miller's (who was in the unusual position of left midfield) hit the ball well but the ball just drifted past the near post.
Cromb then managed to walk off the his pain - and returned to action.
City should have had number 2 - but a ball in to the D from the right was heading towards Ryan Green who tried a first time shot - Fresh Air Swipe (or Dummy) but the ball then headed straight for his Dad Alan Green who did exactly the same from a close position - the ball just went out of play and two chances in one missed. A green double!!
City did add a second when Creag Campbell got an opportunity in the D - his deflected shot went high into the goal. 2.0.
There were other opportunites for the strike partners of Green and Green but the defence stood strong.
Second half - more of the same - City had a couple of short corners - first one Rintoul Dummied everyone and just when it looked like he was going to score he dummied himself and the ball went out of play.
The next short Tool stopped the ball - played it wide to Edwards who played it back to Rintoul who seemed to take an age before mishitting the ball into the bottom cornder. 3.0.
Thats the way the game finished.
This was a good work out for City - but there was some rustiness - it also wasnt easy playing on a surface which had seen frost overnight and was still a bit hard underneath.
I think the most used words today were "too slow" coming from the mouth of Pat Forrester - but he was correct - we were too slow on making some key passes today - which could have seen us win by more.
A comfortable win none the less.
