Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club News story

WCC as a virtual cricket club

02 Apr 2020

Dear cricket friends,

Our clubhouse front door is locked but you should know your club is never closed.

By popular demand, we will be a 'virtual cricket club' until we can begin playing again. We don’t know when this will be at the moment but we hope to have some exciting matches at some stage this year!

In the meantime, we’d love to know what ‘virtual’ events you’d like. So far people have suggested quizzes, coaching masterclasses, the opportunity to meet our captains and other cricketing celebrities. We’d love to see our Lions challenge our Tigers at a simple quiz, the under-13s do battle with the under-14s and the girls take on the boys! Would some of our more mature supporters like to take us down memory lane and tell us what cricket was really like in the ‘good old days’? Perhaps you’d like to join me, or Joe and the first team, for a very real drink in the Overton Drive Virtual Bar!

Matloob Piracha (matloobpiracha@gmail.com) has kindly volunteered to coordinate on this project, so please send him  your comments and any ideas you have that might work. Sohail Ahmed (sohailwcc@gmail.com) is our technical specialist, and we may use ZOOM or a similar webinar tool for larger audiences. If anyone would like to get involved, or learn how to use these tools, please get in touch as this is a great way for us to cope with social isolation together.

Finally, can I please remind everyone the club’s grounds (Overton Drive and Nutter Lane) are closed and should not be used or accessed for any reason at this time.

Stay home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.

Our thoughts are with you all.
