Eighteen years ago our club didn't even have a women's section. At Glasgow Green on Saturday, the Women's 1st Team made history by beating Clydesdale Western 2-0 to lift the National Championship and secure European hockey for the first time ever.
They were worthy winners. Leading at half-time through a cool Heather Aitken finish, they dominated the second half and doubled their lead with a well worked corner converted by Megan Cox. As the clock ticked down, Wildcats closed out the game with composure and could have had another before the end.
The celebrations at the final whistle spoke volumes for the size of the achievement and the amount of work that has gone into it. Make no mistake, this has been years in the making and plenty of bumps in the road have been overcome to get here.
Congratulations, girls. You earned it!
