Paul Russell-Smith RIP

16 Jan 2021

It was with sadness that we learned recently of the death, at the age of 89, of Paul Russell-Smith.

Primarily a forward player Paul was at the club in the 50s and 60s before moving to Cheam HC. In his later years he was involved with the England LX team alongside former WH player and VP Brian Woolcott. Like most players of his generation he enjoyed the post match hospitality just as much as the 70 minutes on the pitch.

There was a strong family connection too as Paul's brother Sidney, and nephew Chris Thornhill all played at WH.

A stroke four years ago curtailed what had still been an active older age, and Paul enjoyed long cycling holidays.

He died peacefully at home.
