New Year Update

23 Dec 2020

Dear Members,

Firstly, wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from WCC.
With winter set in and our end of season abruptly curtailed, I wanted to update you all with how it all
ended and our plans for 2021.

Firstly a big thank you again for all those that made cricket possible in 2020. There was a lot of
behind the scenes planning and organisation to get the games and training on.
We managed to squeeze in a quite impressive 44 senior games in 11 weeks (millions of colts matches!).
2020 saw the return of regular midweek and Sunday cricket for the first time in many years. We even
managed a 4th XI fixture - more of that in 2021.

As ever, thanks to Robbo (Hope you enjoyed the golf Tom), Ports and Andy A for captaining our
 3 league sides.

Winter Nets 2021
We have provisional bookings with both Sandringham School and KWS for winter nets. However with the new Tier 4
restrictions applied to the whole of Herts, Senior training is currently on hold. No nets can currently occur inside or out.
We will endeavour to get something organised when we can.
For the colts - look out for updates from your colts
coach for what and when training can start.

Winter Plans
Ramp: The steps and ramp up to the clubhouse will be refurbished over the winter to make safe and protect against
 further wear and tear.
Nets: Right hand side run up matting will be replaced. Nets spot fixed.
Clubhouse: New shelving has already been installed in the umpires room for extra storage.

2021 Season
After the success of the development XI and the return to midweek and Sunday cricket in 2020 we have plans to enter
a 4th XI to the Herts League.
We still plan on running the development XI and Friendly side on Sunday. We still have our postponed National Village
 Cup spot to fulfil too.
There will be loads of cricket, and something there for everyone.

With the ever expanding colts section, appetite for senior cricket, Nomansland being at capacity and our arrangement with
Kimpton potentially limited due to their own renovations we are looking into options for further ground shares that we could
utilise for colts and senior matches as well as training.

The new cycle path between Wheathampstead and heartwood forest should be completed over the winter. It will run
adjacent to the pitch. Work by HCC was meant to start in October, then December. Hopefully in the new year!

Dates for Diary.
2021 AGM. Look out for a Zoom invite in January.
Provisional Date Sunday 24th January 2021

Please have a read of the Herts League 2021 AGM Preamble.
https://www.hertsleague.co.uk/article/348/AGM-Preamble

We will be discussing this at the AGM and deciding how we would like to vote as a club.
Many of the rules brought in for Covid are likely to remain and be made permanent.

Cheers
