Newbury 3 v Stoke Green Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Stoke Green Cricket Club Won by 81 runs
Match report
We made the long journey to Newbury under sunny skies looking to keep our unbeaten start to the season going. With Taher running late Mark stood in and promptly lost the toss and yet the oppo still put us into bat.
Ashish and Hannan got us off to a flying start with an opening partnership of 49 in 9 overs but then both fell in consecutive overs. After batting against a 12 ball over Pratik's concentration was challenged and he followed soon after. Arun also didn't last too long which saw us at 82-4. Mark and 4s debutant Senthil then put together a bit of a recovery but the unpredictable bounce was still causing issues with some shooting through and others passing at bouncer height. With a partnership of 46 they pushed the scoring forward with some lusty blows but Senthil fell on 22 to the opposition skipper bowling very very slow and alas our own skipper fell 3 balls later. Mark hit a few more riding his luck with some dropped catches but at 143-7 he then fell on 29. This then saw Amar and Tegh at the crease and what a great partnership they put on. Both played some lovely shots, and some Amar smashed some lovely 4s with Tegh playing nicely correct with a straight bat and made a great partnership of 68 . Amar scored a good 41 before being caught behind as we had passed 200. Shortly after though as the overs ran out, Tegh was run out on 24 and that left Hasnaat to be out on 4 with Gurpreet again 0 not out. We had set 216 - a good team effort with 6 scores over 20 and extras putting in a fine effort on 38.
After a simple but nice tea we went out to field. Tegh and Gurpreet got us started but with the openers setting themselves out for the long haul they were luckless - even Gurpreets own father let him down on one chance but, after his batting, we let him off. It was Hasnaat that the got us the first break through. After a few that were far too short he started pitching them up and was rewarded with a clean bowled. It was the introduction of Ashish that saw the wickets tumbling. A quick lbw to start brought in a first team batsman who had dropped down to the 3s. After a few solid shots from him though Ashish found the edge and Mark took the catch in the slips. From then on we felt the result was going to go our way. The batsmen were toiling away slowly. Ashish got a third cleaned bowled and after some good but luckless bowling from Amar it was Mark coming on that brought the rest falling. With Newbury trying to hit now Mark saw his first catch to Hannan, then had a run of a wicket every over for 4 overs, a caught and bowled was followed by 2 good catches from Arun. Hannan got in on the wickets with a nice catch from Hasnaat and then hasnaat came back to bowl and had a nice wicket caught again by Mark at slip. The game was won as we bowled them out for 135.
Another good team performance, still joint top on max points. Next week is the big match vs Marlow Park - also unbeaten in 4 matches.
